Rajwadi Jewellery Set and Antique Sets
A rajwadi jewellery set has that royal, heavy look you see in old palace portraits: broad necklaces, a deep antique gold tone, red and green stones, and plenty of detail. At Shree Radhe Pearls this collection sits together with our antique sets, because the two styles overlap a lot and our customers often look at both before choosing. These are imitation pieces with an antique gold finish. They are not real gold, and that is why you can wear this much jewellery without the cost and the worry.
Before the wedding season our Nal Stop store gets busy with families picking sets for the bride, her sisters and the mothers. A rajwadi piece is usually the first thing they want to see.
Rajwadi set or antique set: what is the difference?
People use these words loosely, and that is fine. In our store, a rajwadi set usually means a bolder, more royal design, often with large kundan-style or coloured stones, broad shapes and heavy drops. An antique set is a broader term for any piece with a dull, old-gold finish. Many antique sets are simpler and lighter, with small motifs, pearls or temple-style details.
So every rajwadi piece is antique in finish, but not every antique set is rajwadi. If you want to be noticed at a sangeet or reception, go rajwadi. If you want something traditional but a little quieter, an antique set may suit you better.
Rajwadi set design options in our collection
We keep a range of rajwadi set design styles so you can choose by occasion and by how much jewellery you like to wear.
Short rajwadi necklace set
A short rajwadi necklace set sits close to the neck, a little like a choker but broader. It comes with matching earrings, and some also have a maang tikka. This works very well with a deep-neck blouse or a heavy silk saree. Brides often pair it with a long haar for the full look.
Long haar sets
Long haar sets fall to the chest or below, with a large pendant in the centre. They look grand with a paithani or a Banarasi. You can wear one alone for Diwali or Ganpati, or layer it under a short necklace for a wedding.
Antique sets with pearls
These mix the antique gold base with rows of pearls or pearl drops. For Maharashtrian brides and for Mangalagaur, this is often the favourite, because it brings together the royal feel and the moti everyone loves.
How to choose a rajwadi jewellery set
I always tell customers to think about three things. First, the neckline of your blouse. A high neck suits a long haar, and a deep neck suits a short, broad necklace. Second, how many hours you will wear it. Heavier pieces look beautiful but can feel tiring by the end of a long function. Third, the rest of your jewellery. If you are wearing big bangles and a nath, you may want a slightly lighter necklace.
A bride’s mother came in last month with photos of three sarees on her phone. We matched one rajwadi jewellery set to all three by picking a design with both red and green stones. Small choices like that save a lot of money.
Matching with your saree
Red and green stones go with most wedding colours. For pastel lehengas, choose sets with white stones or pearls. For a paithani, try to pick up one colour from the pallu.
Care for antique finish
The antique tone hides small marks better than bright gold polish, but it still needs care. Keep your set away from perfume, water and sweat, and wipe it softly with a dry cloth after use. It won’t stay perfect if it is thrown into a bag with other jewellery.
Storage in monsoon
Store each piece in its box with a small silica packet. Pune humidity in July and August is not kind to plated jewellery.
